Concrete Sealing
Why Does Concrete Need Sealed? The concrete in your driveway is a porous material that easily absorbs fluids, salts, fertilizer, oil, and other household chemicals. In areas with snow, a lot of salt is tracked onto your driveway from your tires. The acidic reaction of salt on concrete attacks the concrete paste which weakens the concrete and increases pore size. Once the pore sizes increase additional salts, water and chemicals can penetrate those pores and cause damage during freeze/thaw cycles.
Sealant is an important aspect of protecting concrete driveways or patios; however, sealant does not span wide enough to cover existing cracks. It is usually recommended to have all cracks and joints caulked prior to applying sealant. |
